Benefits of Microneedling & Mesoneedling: Skin-Transforming Alternatives to Injectables

Skincare Treatments

Injectables are often seen as the holy grail of facial restructuring and smoothing treatments. But whilst they may create instant results all without going under the knife, skin quality is often overlooked in these procedures.

The truth is, when it comes to making a visible difference to your complexion, quality skincare trumps injectables any day. It’s about stimulating a change in your skin cells to encourage and pave the way for better skin.

How?

Micro- and meso- needling!

The Difference Between Microneedling & Mesoneedling?

Micro- and meso- needling, whilst slightly different treatments, both work to prompt change. By creating micro-wounds a response is activated, namely by boosting the production of collagen and elastin.

Microneedling uses micro-thin needles to create tiny punctures. Whilst incredibly small, they are significant enough to kick our skin’s natural wound-healing abilities into action.

Mesoneedling creates the aforementioned puncture wounds with the aim of facilitating a more direct absorption pathway for targeted skincare products. An applied, or injected, custom skincare concoction is then delivered exactly where it’s needed the most within the skin.

The main difference between these two treatments is the needle depth. Microneedling goes deeper, igniting a response from the lower layers of the skin. Mesoneedlng, on the other hand, is performed using a Dermafix Pen, which doesn’t penetrate as far into the skin as microneedling needles do. Although the punctures are shallower, they allow applied products to bypass the superficial skin layers and absorb deeper into the skin, allowing change to take place.

In short, microneedling works by creating deeper wounds to facilitate a response, whereas the main driver behind mesoneedling is the applied skincare itself, with the shallower wounds simply creating a more direct pathway for absorption.

What are the Benefits of Mesoneedling & Microneedling?

Both treatments are highly effective at stimulating the natural production of collagen and elastin. Often associated with the ageing process, a loss of collagen leads to sagging, lacklustre and wrinkling complexions. As we age, our skin’s production of elastin usually dwindles too, causing a loss of suppleness and shape.

By boosting the production of these important anti-ageing proteins, micro- and meso-needling are able to:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles;
  • Restore plumpness and suppleness to the skin;
  • Tighten sagging skin;
  • Restore the skin’s ability to retain its shape &
  • Restore radiance to the skin.

Both treatments are typically favoured by those wanting little downtime, yet noticeable results. Unlike other skincare treatments that give comparable outcomes, micro- and meso-needling are less invasive.

In fact, the secret to achieving a great complexion is often as simple as kick-starting your skin’s healing properties into gear. By creating small, controlled punctures, micro-needling benefits skin by making it brighter, tighter and smoother, diminishing pore and wrinkle size and creating an even skin tone.

Alternatively, meso-needling’s added skincare product component makes it a treatment better suited to dealing with more complex problems. Whilst it shares similar results to micro-needling, meso-needling is more able to address specific skin issues.

Deep-rooted skin concerns, such as dehydration, are better tackled through the application or injection of vitamin and mineral-packed skincare concoctions. This means that meso-needling is also a suitable solution for spot treating areas, such as dull under eyes, as a custom solution can be applied only in certain areas to even out complexions.

Prepping For Your Treatment

Choosing between micro- and meso-needling depends on your individual skin concerns. If you’re dealing with surface-level scarring, tone and texture issues, micro-needling is the way to go. If your skin is chronically dehydrated or your complexion is showing advanced signs of ageing, such as sagging and puffiness, meso-needling is the treatment for you.

Either way, both micro- and meso- needling stimulate a healthy change in the skin, paving the way for a more radiant complexion.

What to Expect?

Pre-treatment, our therapists will ensure skin is suitably prepped. For microneedling this involves applying a numbing cream to ensure a painless procedure, a step that isn’t necessary for mesoneedling. With healing time as little as 24-48 hours, these simple treatments mean you can go about your normal routine with no downtime.

We recommend a course of 4 sessions, spaced 6-8 weeks apart for the best results. However, micro- and meso- needling stimulate an immediate reaction. With the wound-healing process kickstarted you’ll notice your skin continuing to improve in the days and weeks post-treatment.
